Who is responsible for your data

The operator is based in Spain, so the processing described here is carried out under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Most readers of this site are in Australia; where Australian privacy law applies to this processing, nothing in this policy is intended to reduce the protections it gives you.
What we collect
This site has no accounts, no newsletter, no comments and no contact form. There is nowhere to submit personal data, and we do not ask for any.
Two kinds of data exist anyway:
- Server logs. Like any web server, ours records requests: IP address, date and time, the page requested, browser and operating system. These are used to keep the site running and secure, and to diagnose faults.
- Analytics, only if you consent. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 records anonymous usage statistics: pages viewed, approximate location by region, device type and how you arrived. It tells us which articles are useful. It does not identify you personally to us.
If you decline, analytics is not loaded and no analytics cookies are set. Consent is handled through Google Consent Mode v2, which starts in the denied state and only changes if you accept. Declining does not restrict access to anything on this site.
Why, and on what legal basis
- Server logs: legitimate interest in operating and securing the site.
- Analytics: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the “Manage cookies” link in the footer.
Who else is involved
- Hosting: the site runs on a private server rented from OVH, located within the European Union.
- Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited), only with consent. Google may transfer data outside the European Economic Area under the safeguards it publishes for that service.
Your data is not sold, rented or shared with anyone else.
How long it is kept
Server logs are kept for a short period for operational and security purposes. Analytics data is retained according to the retention setting configured in Google Analytics.
Your rights
You can request access to your personal data, correction, erasure, restriction of processing, portability, or object to processing, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Write to hello@plumbingexplained.com.
If you believe your data has been handled improperly you may complain to a supervisory authority. In Spain that is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos. Readers in Australia may also raise the matter with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
